General Library FAQs – Hours of operation; contact info; where to get help; general library info
What are the library's hours of operation?
The library is open Monday – Friday year-round, except for days the NPC campus is closed. Hours vary by semester, so be sure to check the library website for updates. The library's hours of operation are posted by the entrance and listed on our home page. The library will be open limited hours between semesters and during the summer.
Where can I go to get help in the library?
For assistance of any kind, go to the library's information desk. The information desk is located near the library entrance. The staff at the information desk can assist you with checking out library materials, reserving study rooms, and any questions you may have about library research.
How do I contact the library if I need help off-campus?
For library assistance during normal business hours you may call (501) 760-4110, use the live chat box on the library home page or D2L, or e-mail Ask A Librarian.
Are there jobs for student assistants in the library?
Yes. The library usually employs 1-2 student assistants. For work-study or financial aid information go to https://np.edu/admissions/financial-aid. Indicate your interest in the library and bring a copy of your application to the library once you know how many hours for which you are eligible.
Are food and drinks allowed in the library?
Food will not be allowed in the library. Please consume your food in the Student Commons building, or use an outside picnic table.
Do I have to be quiet when I'm in the library?
Students request that we keep the library as quiet as possible so they may concentrate on their studies. Please keep your conversations low, use headphones to listen to audio on your computers, and turn your cell phones to vibrate. You may use the study rooms for small groups, as available. Be respectful of the activities of others using the facilities.
Is there any place I can meet with a group to study together?
The library has study rooms that may be reserved for individuals or small groups. Some rooms are equipped with a white board and/or a DVD, VHS or Blu-Ray player. The rooms may be reserved in advance at the information desk; otherwise, they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Preference will be given to students needing to view reference videos for a class assignment. Stop by the information desk in order to reserve a study room for up to 2 hours.
I need to watch a video. Can I watch it in the library?
Yes. You may watch a movie in one of the library's viewing rooms; check with the information desk to see which of the viewing rooms may be available. Depending on room and equipment availability, preference will be given to students needing to view reference videos for a class assignment. A laptop may be used for viewing videos in the Library common area, as long as headphones are used (which can be borrowed from the circulation desk).
Does the library have newspapers?
Does the library have magazines?
Yes. You will find thousands of magazine and journals in our online databases. Proquest Central is a good starting place for research articles and journals, as well as Gale's Infotrac Newsstand.
We also have several general interest magazines in print for use in the library.
