What are Research Guides? (aka "LibGuides")
LibGuides is a web 2.0 content management and publishing system created by SpringShare.
LibGuides -- also known as "Research Guides" -- are online web pages created by librarians to help patrons perform various tasks, such as using library resources or doing research.
How do I find NPC’s Research Guides?
How do I search for a particular subject or Research Guide?
- All Guides: displayed alphabetically by default; can also be displayed by popularity, or most recently created/updated. Click the guide you want to explore, or enter a search term and click “Search”.
- By Subject: displayed alphabetically. Click the guide you wish to explore, or enter a search term and click “Search”.
- By Type: search Course Guides, General Purpose, Subject Guides, and by Topic.
- By Owner: search Guides by Owner.
How do you pronounce “LibGuide”?
There are two ways to pronounce it:
- Lib with a short i – like liberty
- or Lib with a long i – like library
Either way is correct, but you will typically hear NPC librarians pronounce it with a short i.
What else can I see on the Research Guides main page?
You can display all guides alphabetically, by popularity, or by most recently added; you can also display the guides by subject, type, or owner. There is also a search box under the display tabs. In the right column you will also see:
- A link to the A-Z Database List;
- Information for “Your Friendly Librarians” and Research Guide Owners.
What is a Research Guide Owner?
The creator of a Research Guide. Questions pertaining to a specific Guide should be directed to that Guide's Owner.
How can I find the Research Guide Owner information?
- Click on the information symbol next to the Research Guide under “All Guides”, then click on the Guide Owner’s name to see contact information and more Research Guides by that Owner;
- All Guide Owners are listed on the right side of the Research Guides home page; click on a name to see that Guide Owner's information and list of published Research Guides.
